The Grower Requested Own Use (GROU) program is administered by Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) and allows Canadian growers to import and use foreign versions of Canadian registered products. Before products are accepted in the GROU program, they are evaluated by scientists to identify if any chemical differences may lead to increased health or environmental risks.

As the federal regulator of pesticides, it is PMRA’s responsibility to ensure that every person who is granted an Import Certificate is aware of their responsibilities under the GROU Program. Those responsibilities are outlined in the updated sections below.

For those growers who choose to have assistance with the importation of a GROU approved product, please note that all of your responsibilities remain in effect. A copy of your approved Import Certificate will be sent to you with a covering letter.
